About MJET page Minnesota Junior Elite Team (MJET)

OptumHealth Performance is the home of OptumHealth Performance Minnesota Junior Elite Team, the Midwest's first sponsored junior elite triathlon team and recognized as the first USA Triathlon (USAT) High Performance Team in the Midwest Region. The team is coached by Kris Swarthout, a USAT Youth and Junior Certified Coach.

We look at the Minnesota Junior Elite Team (MJET) program as a way to make friends, have some fun and gain skills while being ambassadors of the sport to other youth. The goal is to foster constant improvement and success, ultimately producing athletes with not only physical skills but the social and emotional skills for longevity in a healthy lifestyle. And, of course, we have a blast.

Meet the members of the Gold, Silver and Bronze teams.

MJET Youth Program (Bronze Team)

Team Philosophy

Our emphasis is on age/ability appropriate training methods to develop young athletes with a focus on correct techniques and intensities in swimming, cycling and running.

Basic Plan

Athletes will be able to access the team daily workout program via TrainingPeaks Software™. The training program is appropriate for athletes 10-15 years old. We will supplement athlete/parent communication through our MJET Yahoo Group. The Bronze Team training programming will begin in mid May.

Coached practices in swimming, cycling and running will be held weekly, normally on Wednesday's. We are committed to the support of school sports and coaches so we will work carefully with your other activities during the spring/summer sports season. Traditionally the Bronze Team practices on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. This is subject to change due to holidays and weather. All changes of venue and time will be posted on the Yahoo Group site. A full schedule of practice locations, focuses and coaching staff will be posted on the Yahoo Group site by mid-April.

Locations for practice may vary each week according to races, practice venues, the focus of a particular practice and the availability of practice locations.

Testimonials
  • Although I am still intimidated
and nervous for the race, I feel much more prepared and ready thanks to OptumHealth Performance
    -Scott
  • As a former staff member of multiple training facilities I am very impressed with the staff you have assembled and their professionalism. Thanks for all the effort you and your staff put in every day. -Aaron
  • "Hey Coach Kris- Great news, I set another PR in the pool for the 500 today. 6:14! That's a full 10 seconds off of my recent PR, and 8 seconds off of my adult PR. Thanks for the great technique analysis & coaching!! Thanks OHP!!" -Pete
  • Kris, I really enjoyed working with you, and I appreciate all the information and advice you gave me. I was in the pool tonight doing the drills you listed. The workout was lot harder...and a lot more fun...than I thought it would be. You were right: it's gonna change my life. -Denae
  • Tim, I'm swimming faster than ever before. That last clinic really helped me. Today and I swam my fasted mile ever by over a minute. ...For me this is was really something. Thanks -Tom
  • Jeremy, I attend your Wednesday night workouts at OptumHealth Performance. I have to say I have never felt better in the Spring - I have better leg strength than I have ever had and once my top end speed/quick recovery come around look out!! Thanks for all the guidance over the winter - from my perspective it was perfect! -Brandon
  • OHP did a great job out there!! Clearly one of the (if not "THE") most professionally run events I've ever been a part of in my 10 years of triathlon. (including WTC)!! Coach Kris Swarthout, my helmet is off to you!! I want more OHP Tri's! -Pete
  • We had an awesome speed work session at the Lakes with OHP coaches Brendan and Beka. They had me running sub 6 min. 800 repeats which I didn't know I could do. These guys do a great job (and Coach Ben too). Hey, it's a lot easier to let someone else worry about the workout plan and the stopwatch and just show up and run :). -Eric
