MinneMan Triathlon - Rules

Race Rules

In order for everyone to have a fun, safe, and fair day, there are some rules that everyone must follow. You may also reference the complete list of USA Triathlon rules and regulations.

Swim

  • Per USAT rules, competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower. If the water temperature is between 78.1 - 83.9 degrees, competitors may wear wetsuits but will not be eligible for awards. If the water temperature is 84 degrees or above, participants may not wear wetsuits. An announcement regarding lake temperature per wetsuits will be made race morning.
  • Swim caps must be worn (you will get a swim cap in your race packet bag)
  • Swimmers will start in waves based on the athletes age group and will be spaced three minutes apart.
  • You may swim over to one of the boats or kayaks on the course, hold on, and rest as long as you do not use that vessel to make any forward progress.
  • If you find yourself in trouble, wave your arms at the closest life guard, and they will come over and assist you.

Bike

  • All exposed bar ends must have plugs in them. Plugs will be available race morning if necessary, but it is your responsibility to make sure that the ends are plugged. Bikes without plugs will not be allowed into transition.
  • All bikers must wear ANSI, SNELL, or CPSC approved bike helmets
  • Chin strap on helmet must be fastened before mounting the bike, and at all times while on the bike including while entering and exiting the race site before and after the race.
  • There will be no riding of bikes in the transition area (walk bikes to and from mount/dismount line)
  • There will be no drafting: Bikers must remain in single file with no less than 3 bike lengths between your front tire and the next biker's rear tire. If you need to pass the bike in front of you, you must do so carefully and take no more than 15 seconds to over take that cyclist. Note: The roads will not be closed, so take care when passing to avoid any motorists on the road.
  • There will be no blocking: If another competitor attempts to pass you, you must fall back and let that cyclist pass you. It is now YOUR responsibility to exit the drafting zone (3 bike lengths from the cyclist in front of you)
  • There will be no littering, please respect the local community and tuck empty gel packets and the like into your shorts or pockets and dispose of them in an appropriate receptacle in the transition area.

Run

  • Make sure your race number is visible from the front
  • When you finish the run, let the volunteers remove your timing chip
  • No headphones, radios, or MP3 players allowed

Post Race

  • Nobody shall go back into transition or remove their equipment until the last person is off the bike and out of transition onto the run
  • Violation of any of these rules will result in either a time penalty or disqualification. There will be course marshals out on the course to enforce the rules. The rules are there to ensure that everyone has a safe and fair race.
  • The referees who will be at the race representing USA Triathlon will be wearing red USAT shirts. They will be there to enforce all USAT rules. Look in your race packet for a list of most commonly broken race rules to save yourself from a penalty or disqualification.

  • Kris, I really enjoyed working with you, and I appreciate all the information and advice you gave me. I was in the pool tonight doing the drills you listed. The workout was lot harder...and a lot more fun...than I thought it would be. You were right: it's gonna change my life. -Denae
  • Tim, I'm swimming faster than ever before. That last clinic really helped me. Today and I swam my fasted mile ever by over a minute. ...For me this is was really something. Thanks -Tom
  • Jeremy, I attend your Wednesday night workouts at OptumHealth Performance. I have to say I have never felt better in the Spring - I have better leg strength than I have ever had and once my top end speed/quick recovery come around look out!! Thanks for all the guidance over the winter - from my perspective it was perfect! -Brandon
  • OHP did a great job out there!! Clearly one of the (if not "THE") most professionally run events I've ever been a part of in my 10 years of triathlon. (including WTC)!! Coach Kris Swarthout, my helmet is off to you!! I want more OHP Tri's! -Pete
  • We had an awesome speed work session at the Lakes with OHP coaches Brendan and Beka. They had me running sub 6 min. 800 repeats which I didn't know I could do. These guys do a great job (and Coach Ben too). Hey, it's a lot easier to let someone else worry about the workout plan and the stopwatch and just show up and run :). -Eric
