2011 Ironman Wisconsin Recap

Twenty-four OptumHealth Performance athletes completed the 2011 Ironman Wisconsin, highlighted by strong performances from Lydia Novotny, James "Scot" Wickhem, Adam Mohr and Greta Simpson. The long training hours spent by all the OHP athletes in the water, on the bike and on foot paid off with fine performances in adverse – hot! – conditions, which saw a total of 2244 competitors (of 2449 starters) complete the course. Congratulations to all the athletes for their perseverance including brothers Kevin and Todd Ciresi who started out together, were separated on the swim course but ended up together on the run for10 miles until big brother Kevin pulled ahead to the finish. And special mention to newbie Steve Banks who overcame health obstacles to achieve his dream of completing his first Ironman. Is an Ironman in your future? Whatever your goal, we can help make it happen.

  • "Hey Coach Kris- Great news, I set another PR in the pool for the 500 today. 6:14! That's a full 10 seconds off of my recent PR, and 8 seconds off of my adult PR. Thanks for the great technique analysis & coaching!! Thanks OHP!!" -Pete
  • Kris, I really enjoyed working with you, and I appreciate all the information and advice you gave me. I was in the pool tonight doing the drills you listed. The workout was lot harder...and a lot more fun...than I thought it would be. You were right: it's gonna change my life. -Denae
  • Tim, I'm swimming faster than ever before. That last clinic really helped me. Today and I swam my fasted mile ever by over a minute. ...For me this is was really something. Thanks -Tom
  • Jeremy, I attend your Wednesday night workouts at OptumHealth Performance. I have to say I have never felt better in the Spring - I have better leg strength than I have ever had and once my top end speed/quick recovery come around look out!! Thanks for all the guidance over the winter - from my perspective it was perfect! -Brandon
  • OHP did a great job out there!! Clearly one of the (if not "THE") most professionally run events I've ever been a part of in my 10 years of triathlon. (including WTC)!! Coach Kris Swarthout, my helmet is off to you!! I want more OHP Tri's! -Pete
  • We had an awesome speed work session at the Lakes with OHP coaches Brendan and Beka. They had me running sub 6 min. 800 repeats which I didn't know I could do. These guys do a great job (and Coach Ben too). Hey, it's a lot easier to let someone else worry about the workout plan and the stopwatch and just show up and run :). -Eric
