Start in Endurance Sports: About four years ago I registered for my first Triathlon. My girlfriend at the time introduced me to running and after my first 5K race I was hooked on the experience of racing and liked the opportunity racing presented me to grow in athletics. I really had no athletic background other than playing hockey in high school and weight lifting after that point. I had just started running a couple miles and I thought the idea of doing a triathlon and a marathon would be good goals for me. From that it's history.
Athletic Accomplishments: Since I started four years ago I have completed over 60 races including running 5K's, marathons, triathlons, an Ironman triathlon, and various bike races. I have finished every race I started! Over the last couple years I hit some strides and made some podiums in the age group ranks.
Most Memorable Race: Ironman Arizona was the most memorable race for me as it was my first Ironman and it was a long day of racing in which I went through every emotion I have. I also experienced various levels of pain I didn't know existed.
Impact of Coaching: Customized coaching and testing and analysis have been the foundation of my growth as an athlete over the last couple years. It's important to set goals to aim for in sports and even better when you have a customized plan and testing/analysis data to track your progress and help you realize your goals. OptumHealth Performance emerged in the local community as the one leader offering world class coaching, testing/analysis, and fitness classes all under one roof at reasonable price points. To an athlete like me this provided me everything I need in one place versus going to the gym for a spin class, then a pool across town for a masters class, then meeting with my coach at another location. It was very refreshing to see someone had the insight to consolidate this fragmented market of services we utilize as athletes training for endurance events.
